New design...

And to give it a good start again, I'm very busy designing a new knittingpattern.
Here's a sneakpeek:

Long time no see...

I know, I've been gone for a long time now.
But that doesn't mean I haven't been busy!
Instead, it has been a little chaotic around here.
I started homeschooling the girls and that takes the most of my time... obviously!
But also, the homeschooling and having my kids at home made our little family more intense and close to eachother. It gave us something that is very rare to find in this society: rest, peace and love. We all calmed down and started living again... in our own way and our own rhythm.

The big change wasn't only good for the girls, but it also made me breath again. Like there is some weight off my shoulders now. Everything turned out better than we could ever hoped for.
Time to change other things too!

I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, how I wanted to manage it all.
Offcourse the kids and their education got first place immediately, above everything else. But what with the webshop? Am I capable of running a busy webshop with homeschooling 3 kids? Is this what I really want to keep doing? Or do I need some changes too, just like the girls did? And so yes, what do I want?

I decided to stop sewing babycarriers, I enjoyed making them, but it took most of my crafting time and it was just too much. I'm letting someone else making them in my place as we're speaking. More information about that in the next weeks/months.

Cotton diapers. I had some great ideas about them and it's time to start with that! I want to make them more unique, more art-like, not just cotton diapers.
Also, more information later.

But what I really want to do, is to design more. Designing patterns, creating real things with a meaning behind it or just because they are beautiful. Knitwear most of the time... offcourse. But I don't want to be bound by anything. I always loved the designing from scratch: take some wool, fabric, dyes, other materials and just start designing something without a plan, without boundaries, using whatever I feel like using. I think that's the way I want to go... just find myself again in what I'm doing.

Another thing I started to do, is writing childrensbooks. Creating them... and that comes with knitwork too ;o)
Can't say too much about that yet, but I'm having the time of my life. Combining art with my family, the two things I love the most. It's just great...

And above all of that, I'm trying to create myself again. The people who really know me, know that this is a big step forward, cause I'm not the kind off person that loves spending time on herself, but still... some things were in order, I was hitting a wall there, over and over again.
I started playing the guitar (thanks to my oldest daughter, who was the cause of it, because she wanted to learn playing it but is too young for the music-academy) and that changed a lot. Music was my first love and it will be my last... it sounds very cliche but it's nothing but the truth.
I also changed my clothingpattern into more "me". More indierock-like, I don't think that is a style, but you probably know what I mean.
And then... an old dream popped up again. A dream that I wanted 10 years ago, in the time that my parents still had a say in me, which also explains why I never made that dream come true. But now... it was the right time for it. So, I googled and found. And since 7 days, I have dreadlocks in my hair. I'm so in love with them! It feels like I'm finally me... that's the only way to explain it.
My family loves them too... pfew!

We're not there yet, I know. But this small family is taking steps in the good direction... and we're enjoying every single second of it!

I think it's time to start blogging again... Thanks for all the sweet mails and messages I received in my absence, it was nice to read all of them!

Sedna's Shawl

This shawl was finished last summer. I have no idea why I waited so long to take pictures of him, but here he is!
I testknitted it for Mary Lena.



Pattern: Sedna's Shawl (English version: here)
Yarn: Tucana's Dream Merino Aran in violet, bordeaux and orange. I first thought it was an odd color-combo, but I just love the way it turned out! Totally my kind of colors! Spicey and fruity.
Modifications: none. I would recommend a bigger version, but I ran out of yarn. The crochet border is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. It's one of many great Mary Lena-patterns! Check out her website! She's one of my favorite designers!

Pinwheel

I’m trying to use up the yarn in my boxes.
A whole experiment! :o



I had some super bulky 100% acryl left from when I just started knitting… :/
Although I really don’t like acryl, I had 500 grams left and my daughter needed a quick sweater.



I looked for a good pattern for her and the pinwheel is perfect!
The pattern wasn’t well written though. Especially the arm-part. I rewrote it a bit and made my own version…



Pelagia isn’t a girly girl for who you can knit girly things. She is one special kid that needs special fabrics and special colors, special techniques, assymmetry… just everything that is a bit different.
The pinwheel fits her and her personality.



The buttons are handmade as well.

Don’t blame me for her haircut!
I was cutting the ends and the moment I closed the scissors, she jumped off the chair.
I had to cut her beautiful long hair into this to have it straight :(

Castle on a Cloud

Castle on a Cloud is the Les Miserable-sister of On My Own, our popular beret-pattern.
When I designed this pattern, I used the blue-white wool that you can see on the pictures.
The colors made me think of clouds, while the result shows something of a castle. Castle on a Cloud would be the name!
In the musical Les Miserables, Castle on a Cloud is a beautiful song about a girl-like-cinderella that steps out of reality in her daydreams. She dreams about a better place for her: her castle on a cloud.

Castle on a Cloud is het Les Miserables-zusje van On My Own, ons populaire beret-patroon.
Toen ik dit patroon bedacht, gebruikte ik daarvoor de blauw-witte wol van op de foto's. De kleur deed mij meteen aan wolken denken, terwijl het resultaat wel iets weg had van een kasteel. Castle on a Cloud spookte meteen door mijn gedachten en zo geschiedde.
In de musical Les Miserables is Castle on a Cloud een prachtig lied over een assepoester-achtig meisje dat door te dagdromen de realiteit achter zich laat en droomt over een betere plaats voor haar: haar kasteel in de wolken.



Sizes
1 size for adults.
You can make it smaller by using a thinner yarn and thinner needle.
Make it larger by using a thicker yarn and thicker needle.
Materials
- Wool: You can use any yarn you want, as long as it's usable for ndl. 4-5mm and you can get the gauge. We do encourage you to use natural fibers. Acryl/Polyester/other non-natural fibres are damaging the human skin.
Suggestions: Tucana's Dream bluefaced leicester DK, Tucana's Dream BFL-Silk Aran
- 4mm circular needle of 60cm or dubble pointed needles
- stitchmarkers
- stitch-holder
Gauge
22 stitches x 28 rows = 10cm x 10cm


Maten
1 maat voor volwassenen.
Kleiner maken, kan je door een dunner garen – dunnere naald te gebruiken, vergroten door een dikker garen – dikkere naald.
Materialen
- Wol: U kan eender welk garen nemen dat u wenst. Wil u de maten uit het patroon, dan neemt u een garen voor naaldnummer 3,5-4mm. Kleiner of groter maken, kan door het garen en de naaldnummer te veranderen.
Wij raden natuurlijke vezels aan. Acryl/Polyester/andere niet-natuurlijke vezels bevatten schadelijke stoffen die in het algemeen niet gezond zijn voor de huid.
Suggesties: Tucana's Dream bluefaced leicester DK, Tucana's Dream BFL-zijde aran.
- een rondbreinaald van 4 mm naaldbreedte en minstens 60 cm lang.
- stekenmarkeerders (dat hoeven geen luxe dingen te zijn, een elastiekje of een touwtje waarvan je de uiteinden aan elkaar knoopt, werkt even goed!) om het begin van de ronde aan te duiden.
- stekenhouders, om de steken van de duim op vast te houden, terwijl je de rest van de hand breit (dat kan ook gewoon een stukje draad zijn waar je de steken op zet)

22 steken x 28 rijen geeft 10cm x 10cm

Cedar Leaf Shawlette by Alana Dakos

Sinds enkele weken zijn wij de officiële Nederlandse vertalers voor de patronen van Alana Dakos.
Dit houdt in dat wij haar patronen vertalen in het Nederlands en deze vertalingen mogen verdelen.
Wat een eer! Ze heeft de meest prachtige patronen en ik kan haast niet wachten om haar collectie stuk voor stuk te mogen voorstellen!



Het eerste patroon waar ik me mee bezig hield, is uiteraard haar bestseller: de Cedar Leaf Shawlette. Ik maakte hem enkele maanden geleden al in een prachtige gouden wol en de keuze was rap gemaakt. Wat een fantastisch patroon!
Het patroon is nu al enkele weken geleden vertaald, maar wegens ziekenhuisopname en langdurig (naar mijn normen toch ;o)) herstel, kan ik het nu pas publiceren.



Cedar Leaf Shawlette,
een prachtige, halve maan-vormige, kleine shawl die je mooi rond je schouders kan draperen en die er tevens fantastisch uitziet wanneer je het gewoon als sjaal rond je nek knoopt.
De gebogen vorm wordt gecreërd door het gebruik van 'korte toeren'.
De gebladerde rand wordt aangebreid nadat het hoofdgedeelte van de sjaal is gebreid.

Afmetingen wanneer klaar
Lengte: 137 cm van eind tot eind.
Breedte: ongeveer 20 cm op het breedste punt, bladrand inbegrepen.

Materialen
Handmaiden Lady Godiva (50% zijde, 50% wol; 273 yard/250m per 100 gram; kleur: cedar; 2 strengen wol of ongeveer 320m van een breigaren voor nld.3-4mm. Alternatief: Fleece Artist Woolie Silk 3-ply, Malabrigo Silky Merino, Manos Silk Blend, Tucana's Dream Bluefaced Leicester DK)
en
een 4,5mm rondbreinaald van 80cm
een 4,5mm dubbelpuntige breinaald voor de bladrand
maasnaald

Stekenverhouding
20 steken x 36 rijen = 10cm in tricotsteek
gebreid met 4,5mm breinaald of naald nodig om de stekenverhouding te bekomen.
